Just in!! Aparna Sen won 'Best Director', and Konkona SenSharma 'Best Female Actor' for Iti Mrinalini.. at the 11th Annual New York Indian Film Festival 2011, last night!

Iti Mrinalini.. (An Unfinished Letter) is Aparna Sen's latest film , starring Konkona SenSharma in title role. It was premiered at 12th MAMI International Film Festival 2010 and will have an international premiere at the Cairo International Film Festival, starting from November 30. For theatrical release, may be in mid of 2010.

There had been a long silence , for this blog. This doesn’t mean I lost interest in Konkona , and I still pay attention on her news and films. Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to getting back in touch with all of you, since now.

Here are a few interesting news items to get started:

• Konkona-Ranbir starred “Wake up Sid” will be released on 2^nd October this year. Official website is already lunched (unfortunately there is no first look for Konkona’s character) and the first promo will released on 14^th of August with Vishal Bharadwaj’s “Kaminey”. Konkona’s character in the film named, Ayesha Banerjee, who has just finished her Master's, has come to Mumbai to become a writer and then she meets a complete opposite person (Ranbir Kapoor).

• Konkona will play do double role for the first time in "Mirch", being directed by Vinay Shukla, also starring Raima Sen and Shahana Goswami. Konkona will play as a Rajasthani queen and a today’s contemporary woman.

• Moreover, she will stars in Aanand L Rai’s film “Tanu Weds Manu” opposite R. Madhavan.
  

• Another interesting news is that Konkona will star in Aparan Sen’s next, again opposite R. Madhavan, and Suzanne Bernert in offered to play the role of close friend of Konkona. This film is about an aging actor who attempts suicide! Interesting na?

Konkona at Kunal Basu's "Japanese Wife" Book Launch

February 4 , 2008 , Konkona attended the event to launch Kunal Basu's book on Aparna Sen's forthcoming film The Japanese Wife with her mother and Ranvir Shorey at JW Marriott, Juhu, Mumbai .

As I mentioned , the Japanese wife is the Aparna Sen forthcoming film starring Rahul Bose and Raima Sen. This book is earlier launched at the Singapore Writers Festival and now released from Harper Collins. ( I looking for this book in Singapore , but still not avalible here) .

As usual, Konkona wore a long black full sleeve cotton jacket with blue wide leg jeans and open toe black sandals while her mother looked regal in a tassar silk saree and a brocade blouse.

News update !

Unfortunately , Konkona lost her Star Screen trophy again. But there are a few award functions left and I hope she will tie with in one of these.

I found an information at indiafm.com that Konkona will star in remake of Goutam Ghose's Paar : the original film starring Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah and both win National Awards respectively. Even without reliable sources , I hope this project will come out.
Meanwhile , I am seriously looking forward Aparna Sen's The Japanese Wife : unusual love story based on the novella by Kunal Basu . I haven't read any works of him but I am looking for this book , which will has been published soon. Even Konkona will not stars this film , I hope this will wonderful film like Aparna early works. And also I feel Raima Sen is awesome too.

"My daughter, my pride" : Aparna Sen

I love Aparna Sen as the awarding winning director , acclaimed actress and as the mother of Konkona too. One thing we can say is that she is a very brilliant director with high drama and powerful emotion. Her film "15, Park Avenue" won the "National Award for English Film" and she and Konkona has been honoured with the "Zee Astitva Award" for their outstanding contribution to cinema.
There was a story when Konkona Sen Sharma came into the industry as an actress, many wondered how she would live in the long shadow of her actor-director mother Aparna Sen. And whether she made it into films because of her mother. But she has put that doubt at rest permanently by proving again and again with her acclaimed films that she is an actor with her own style.
Right now mom Aparna is making a film named "Japanese Wife" without Konkona but with Raima Sen to pair opposite Rahul Bose. But Aparna confirmed that she will make "Jewellery Box" after this film with Konkona again. Firstly, I heard that she will not make this one and just make "Japanese Wife".
"Jewellery Box" , which is a comedy , is her first feature film in Hindi and it's about three generations of women and their changing attitudes viewed through a box of jewels. This film will also star Govinda, Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan.

In DNA interview , Aparna comments on Konkona -

"She's honest, instinctive and innovative. She is a dream to work with. And she's also free to say 'no' to me.We're very close. Our sense of aesthetics, sensibilities and values are the same. Her voice, body language and expressions are similar to mine."

Anyway I love both Konkona and Aparna for their brilliant films and performance.Even Konkona states that her mother's film "Japanese Wife" is a wonderful one and a very beautiful script. So I am looking forward this film .Actually Raima is also a talented actress . But now I have great hope on Aparna "Jewellery Box" which we can expected in late 2008 .

Anyway Konkona is now making the successful transition from offbeat films to commercial films. She says that while she continues to do offbeat cinema which mainly targets festival audiences, she is simultaneously doing mainstream cinema as well which gets her instant appreciation and recognition. Go on Konkona !
