Pradeep Sarkar's "Laaga Chunari Meing Daag" is rumoured the remade of K Balachander's 1977 film, "Aaina", starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz since the first trailer is released. This film is about a small town girl became prostitute to feed her big family and the director Sarkar claimed that he had not even watched the film.
But now another rumour comes out ! "Laaga Chunari..." closer resemblance to the Marathi film, Doghi (1995). Directed by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukhtankar, the film stars Renuka Daftadar (playing Rani's character) and Sonali Kulkarni (playing Konkona's character). Doghi, meanwhile, is about two sisters. The elder sister takes to the streets in order to protect her younger sibling, and also care of her family. For this fact Pradeep's answer is interesting -
"I won’t say it is based, but it’s kind of inspired, though I haven’t seen the film, but I don’t think we have many similarities. I have admitted that it’s been inspired by the Marathi film, but not Aaina ."
Anyway the rumours come out in film industry is not a strange condition. But time to consider is not much far ! This Friday ! You go watch and enjoy the talented acting of Konkona, Rani and Jaya from "Laaga Chunari...."!
